The author was a Hungarian sage, who quotes ideas from the leading Hungarian sages: the Chatam Sofer (p. 9), Mahara”m Mintz (p. 98), and the Mahara”m A”sh (p.1-2). He makes one mention of the gaon Mahara”m A”sh in the name of his father-in-law, Rabbi David Deutsch (p. 81). The author additionally quotes things that he himself heard from Rabbi Meir Almas. On pg. 49, he writes, ” And I heard from the holy mouth of the great rabbi, the sharp and expert … Meir of Almas.” On pg. 148, he writes “and it seems to … Meir Almas.”
Rabbi Meir Almas (1768-1840) was the Av Beit Din of Bucharest and Mattersdorf. He was one of the leading Torah personalities of his time and was extolled by all the other Hungarian greats. His son-in-law was Rabbi Asher Anshel Jungreis of Csenger, author of Menuchat Asher , who often spoke his father-in-law’s praise. Rabbi Meir’s Torah was collected into the work Shlama D’Rabi Meir.”
