A pair of finials for a Torah scroll, particularly large and impressive. Stamped silver. American in Russian style, c. 1890.
Height: 39 cm. Maximum diameter: 12 cm. Stamped M.C. 84. A dedication in Hebrew is engraved on the two legs of the finials.
Russian style. 3 parts (from top to bottom): Crown, “pear,” leg, an eagle on top of the crown. Reliefs of flowers and leaves and other decorations. repoussé work.
On each finial are two rows of 4 delicate arms for hanging bells. On the upper crown are more small bells. Smooth leg at the base.
American Jewish artists at the end of the 19th century often forged Russian seals. Refer to the booklet Rimonim, page 106.
Bells are missing, slight dents at the base of the finials. Fine condition.
