Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the wondrous gaon Rabbi Zalme’leh of Volozhin .
There are those who claim that the interesting name Rabbi Zalme’leh was given to him by the Vilna Gaon, due to the fact that the Gr”a’s own father was named Shlomo Zalman, so the Gr”a changed Rabbi Zalme’leh’s name out of respect for his own father, to avoid using his father’s name.
