Letter loaded with blessings from the Admo”r Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Lubavitch to his only cousin, Zelda Schneurson-Mishkovsky “The Poetess Zelda” – a celebrated and famous poetess. Days of Selichot, 1965. Brooklyn, NY.
The letter before us, written, in the Rebbe’s words, “towards the upcoming new year, the seventh year, the Shemittah year, ” known for its inestimably great symbolic and segulah significance in Kabbalah – and especially in Chassidic doctrine – per the verse “I shall decree my blessing.”
Indeed, it is evident in this letter that the Rebbe blesses and adds to his blessings, beyond the usual, writing: “I hereby express my blessing [to you] and all that is [yours]; a blessing to be inscribed and sealed for the good; for a good and sweet year; materially and spiritually.” And the Rebbe adds in his hand: “With regards to the entire family, may they be well, and with a blessing for glad tidings; in open and revealed goodness. [Your] relative, Menachem Mendel Schneerson.” (Looking carefully, we count here precisely seven expressions of blessing for the upcoming shemittah year.)
The Admo”r Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson [1902-1994], seventh in the dynasty of the Admo”rs of Lubavitch, started serving as Admo”r in 1951 and continued until his passing. He was a tremendous gaon in all aspects of the Torah. His net was – and still is – cast across the entire world.
