Fragments of leaves from the book Meor HaAfelah [Nur al-Zulm], of Rabbeinu Netanel ben Yeshayah, in Hebrew and Arabic. Yemen, 15th century.
5 fragments. Various sizes. Yemenite script.
Rabbi Netanel ben Yeshayah (lived in the first half of the 14th century) was an early Yemenite scholar. He was a Biblical and halachic commentator. He authored the Nur al-Zulm (Meor HaAfelah) on the Torah. It was written in Arabic in 1329. Most of the work follows the rational, philosophical path of Maimonides. However, Rabbi Netanel also integrated some ideas that did not follow that of the Rambam, but of Rabbi Yehudah HaLevi and Nachmanides. His work also contains many kabbalistic ideas, although kabbalah was not yet widely studied in Yemen in his time.
The leaves were removed from a binding. Tears. Holes. Poor condition.
