"Sever Panim." Dedication by the author Rabbi Moshe Zaken Mazuz

Sever Panim. Contains three books: Pnei Zaken on the Talmud, Pnei Moshe on the rules of the Talmud, and Pnei Melech on the Rambam. By Rabbi Moshe Zaken, son of Rabbi Kamus Maatuk Mazuz. Livorno, [1881]. Author’s dedication in his handwriting.
[4] 142, 10 leaves, 30 cm. On the page before the title page is a long dedication in the author’s handwriting and with his signature.
Rabbi Moshe Zaken Mazuz was one of the great sages of Djerba and served as its chief rabbi from 1910 until his death in 1915. He was a student of Rabbi Chaim HaCohen of Tripoli, author of Lev Shomea and other books. He was a posek, a very learned man, and a kabbalist, and he taught many students in Djerba. In addition to the aforementioned works he also printed other books (refer to Chochmei Tunisia, page 106).

Beit HaRiya by Rabbi Avraham Arusi together with leaves from other works by the author, some unique. Yemen, [1911].

Beit HaRiya written by Rabbi Avraham Arusi, from the first edition of the work (the second, expanded edition from 1919 is in the Ben Zvi Institute, 3370). Solitary leaves from other manuscripts were bound at the beginning of the work, including a title page for Ohel Moed by the same author and two pages of the book. This work regarding the halachot of gittin and kiddushin was never printed, and apparently does not exist in any other manuscript.
Rabbi Arusi was born in Yemen in 1878 and immigrated to Eretz Yisrael in 1923. He wrote books, hymns, and poems, only a selection of which were printed. Refer to Toratan shel Bnei Teiman, (Kiryat Ono, 1995), p. 89-91.

Fragments of leaves from the book Meor HaAfelah [Nur al-Zulm], of Rabbeinu Netanel ben Yeshayah, in Hebrew and Arabic. Yemen, 15th century.

Rabbi Netanel ben Yeshayah (lived in the first half of the 14th century) was an early Yemenite scholar. He was a Biblical and halachic commentator. He authored the Nur al-Zulm (Meor HaAfelah) on the Torah. It was written in Arabic in 1329. Most of the work follows the rational, philosophical path of Maimonides. However, Rabbi Netanel also integrated some ideas that did not follow that of the Rambam, but of Rabbi Yehudah HaLevi and Nachmanides. His work also contains many kabbalistic ideas, although kabbalah was not yet widely studied in Yemen in his time.

The letters of the book Tur Orach Chaim are decorated. Red lines and decorations above each name of the simanim in the Shulchan Aruch, in addition to all letters referring to the Be’er Heitev.The title page bears a handwritten note regarding the copier along with the date 1773 and the named Saadya ben Yarchya. [See Hebrew catalog text.]
Original leather binding, lightly blemished. Aging stains. Marginal reinforcements to a number of leaves. It is very uncommon to find this type of manuscript without anything missing and without worming holes. Fine-very fine condition.

Megillat Tikkun Leil Shavuot 10 Meters Long. Yemen, 18th-19th Century. Very Rare

Tikkun Leil Shavuot  written on paper in the form of a Megillah. Yemen, 18th-19th century.
[88] pages written on one side. Ink on paper. Yemenite writing.
Height: 18cm. Length: Approx. 10 meters. Most of the sheets have 4 columns per sheet. Each sheet is sewed to the adjacent one and the first and last are sewed to the scroll handles (atzei chaim).
The writing of a Tikkun Leil Shavuot as a Megillah is unusual and extremely rare. 
The first sheet was completed in different handwriting on different paper. Age stains. Slight tears without lack of text. A few reinforcements. Moderate condition.

"Tola'at Yaakov". Yemen, 17th century. Lengthy glosses

Order of the prayers and blessings, customs and elucidation of the prayers, according to kabbala, by Rabbi Meir ben Gabai.
Specifications: [163] leaves, missing a number of leaves at the beginning and end. Straight, organized writing.
Background: Rabbi Meir Gabai authored the Tola’at Yaakov, Derech Emunah and Avodat HaKodesh. He was a prominent early kabbalist and the last kabbalistic figure to debate with philosophers. He was very young during the Spanish expulsion. He wrote this work before he was thirty, but despite his young age, it was accepted as a fundamental kabbalistic work, to the extent that the Shl”a copied most of this work into his Shnei Luchot HaBrit.
Unique features: Lengthy glosses in early Yemenite handwriting in the margins of 11 sequential pages. As mentioned, the Tola’at Yaakov wasn’t studied by simple, unlearned people, so this work was clearly copied for, or even by, an early Yemenite kabbalist.
Condition: fine, aging stains. Minimal tears and reinforcements, not affecting text. New, half-leather binding.

Collection of prayers and laws of Passover. Includes the Zevach Pesach with the laws of Passover in Judeo-Arabic by “Salimen Tzalach ‘n Yosef Tzalach,” the younger brother of the Maharitz (1a-7b); Tefillat Arvit Leil Pesach (7b-9a); Aggadita D’Pischa with the Haggada per the Yemenite customs and Arabic commentary compiled from the commentary of Rabbi Yitzchak Vaneh, including the Seder Ha’asiya B’Leilei Pesach (9b-20a); and parts of the prayers for Shacharit and Mussaf of Passover, including the Tefilat Tal and Am V’Kadosh Hayom.
Specifications: [22] leaves, paper, 16×11 cm. Nice Yemenite handwriting.
Unique features: The work was written in Arabic and was designated for the masses and women, who were the ones that generally baked the Passover matzot. The work was only published recently, by Rabbi Yosef Kapach, and it has since been included in the Sidurei Etz Chaim.

Content: An excerpt from a small Chumash. Excerpts from the portions of Vayetzei-Vayishlach. With vowels and cantillation.
Condition: Poor. One almost complete leaf with a few holes. Half of the second leaf is missing. Stains and blemishes.

A Precise Order of Haphtarot for the Entire Year. Yemen, 18th Century

Order of “Haphtarot” for the entire year according to the Yemenite custom, with vowels and cantillation, Mesorah Ktana in the margins and an illustrated title page.
Specifications: [63] leaves at the beginning, another [5] blank leaves and another [4] leaves at the end. Paper, 17×25 cm. On the last leaf “The Blessings of the Haphtorah”. Block Yemenite handwriting.
Unique Features: The author had Rabbi Yichye Tzalach’s book ‘Chelek HaDikduk’ before him, and refers to it several times by the initials C. H., he also had old “Tagin” and mentions changes to them.
Pleasant and orderly Yemenite handwriting. A title page with a leaf-decorated border is at the top. In the margins of the title page the scribe wrote: “And I will request help from G-d to help me and to come to my aid to write, proofread and amend it according to the original haphtorah of the early great Rabbis, and if one of my brothers who reads and studies it should find a mistake which is different from the early haphtorot, correct it, as mistakes are inevitable and who will understand errors [clean me from the hidden ones], the burden of time is much heavier than me, and may there be peace to all of the Jewish people”. Leaves from Tikkun Leil Shavuot in Yemenite handwritings were glued inside the binding. Additional comments about tradition were added by someone from a later period.
Condition: Very good. The title page is detached and has a tear with slight lack. Original leather binding with engravings and a damaged spine.

The auction itself will be directed by an experienced auctioneer according to the standards and regulations of auction houses. We request
visitors and participants to familiarize themselves with the regulations and current conditions. We recommend that people unfamiliar with
these regulations ask our staff at the exhibition for the information they deem necessary.
* Participation in the public auction and receipt of a “participant’s number” are tantamount to the confirming and agreeing that the
recipient of the number is familiar with the regulations, procedures, and conditions of our exhibitions and public sales. Any problems
arising during the auction sale or afterwards as a result of a purchase will be resolved by the purchaser and the management of the company
in according with accepted practice.
* Since the company is merely the organizer and administrator of the exhibition and auction, and is not the owner of the items themselves,
it is hereby agreed and stipulated that in no case will the Company be responsible to the purchasers after the transfer of the payment to the
seller- owners. Thus, in case the payment received from a purchaser has already been transferred to the owner, and even if the complaint
or claim made by the purchaser is justified, and we make every effort to have his money retuned to him by the owner, we shall be under
no obligations to do so, and shall not engage in any legal proceedings after it has been handed over to the owner, though we shall agree
to provide the purchaser with suitable documentations on our part to enable him to engage in such legal proceedings against the owner.
* Upon receipt of the “participant’s number”, in person or via telephone, the potential buyer agrees and obligates himself not to prosecute
us or place a lawsuit against us in the event of damage caused or error in the catalogue description. Any complaints or claim after transfer
of the money to the seller, are only valid against the seller himself.
Prices and Estimates:
Participations in the auction is expressed: (a) by the personal presence of the purchaser in the hall; (b) by the presence of his representative;
(c) by means of written or telephoned bids empowering the management of the company to purchase various items for the person ordering
them (d) Via the Internet.
* The presence of the purchaser’s representative obliges him to make good his purchases, with whatever this entails. The company shall
not agree to obligate his sender or to free the representative of any obligation, even though the representative may fill his sender’s name
explicitly in our forms.
* If we receive a telephone or written order for a certain item, we shall strive to act in the interest of the person giving the order, just as if
he himself was in the hall. We, however, are under no obligation to obtain the item for him.
* We are under no obligation to accept any bid, including the highest bid, even though the purchaser or his representative is personally
present in the hall and participating in the auction.
* The auction itself is administered by announcing numbers in US$, though the actual payment may be made in either Shekalim in
accordance with the average rate of exchange which will be announced at the auction hall or at the day of the payment (The highest) or in USD.
* A 24% commission charge is added to all payment made by purchasers up to $500,000. 20% is added up to $501,000. A Vat ia added only on this comission charges. This percentage is an integral part of the bid accepted by the auctioneer during
the auction, and all obligations, etc, apply also to this percentage
* A foreign resident will be exempt from VAT only if the item purchased is shipped outside of the country by the company without its
guarantee and subject to receipt of an export entry from the custom authorities. The purchaser will cover all related expenses.
* Bank and personal checks are accepted tentatively, until they are honored by the bank.
* Payment by cash, checks or transfers within the country will be accepted without further charge. Foreign checks, credit cards (from
Israel) will be charged an additional 1.5%. bank transfers from foreign countries will be charged an additional 1.5% min. $30. Credit card
payments from foreign countries will be charged an additional 3%.
* Each item is accompanied by an estimate value made by our experts. There is no guarantee that the item will not be sold for a lower
estimate nor that the actual price of the item will not be much higher than the highest estimate value. This paragraph does not detract from
our consistent defense of the minimum price determined by the owner of the item.
Additional information and conditions:
* The purchaser or his representative will claim the purchased item as soon as possible. We request that he appear within seven days to
make the payment and collect the acquisition: under no circumstances is this to take place after 14 days from actual date of auction. After 14 days storage charges may be charged of $5.00 per lot per day. The purchaser himself is solely responsible for the dispatch of items to his home, in any way that he deems fit. The purchaser is responsible for the costs involved in such dispatch. Optional shipping insurance is available.
* The purchased item will not leave the company’s premises until payment is made.
* If payment is not received within 14 days of the auction, Winners reserves the right to cancel the sale unilaterally, without foregoing
their claim for commission.
* ATTENTION OWNERS: The company is not responsible for the actual carrying- out of payments undertaken by the purchasers during
the auction. In the event that obligations by the purchaser are not honored, we shall support the former owner of the item is taking steps
to obtain the payment owing him, but we shall not engage in legal procedures against purchasers. We shall proceed in all ways we find
suitable, but we are under no obligations to do so.
* Purchasers and sellers agree to be considered legal parties in every way in case we exercise the rights we are hereby granted to engage in
legal proceedings, or any other accepted steps against a party who does not honor its obligations.
