Letter containing a blessing for the Passover festival, signed in the hand of the Admo”r of Lubavitch, to Dr. Hillman (see below). Passover eve, 1949. Brooklyn NY.
Before us is an early letter from the Rebbe (approximately two years before he began serving as Admo”r!). It is written on (relatively rare) official stationery of Mercaz L’Inyonei Chinuch, the most important Chaba”d institution, the umbrella organization for the dissemination of “ma’ayanot” and of the “shlichim” enterprise. The “Mercaz” answered directly to the Rebbe, under his presidency. (The Mercaz was located on the first floor of 770 Eastern Parkway, which eventually became the Rebbe’s personal residence.) The Mercaz currently administers the Rebbe’s private property according to the instructions in his will.
The letter before us starts with a proposal recommended by Dr. Hillman for encouraging Shabbat observance. The Rebbe then discusses a compilation published for Passover. The Rebbe concludes his letter with blessings for the Passover festival: “Extending my wishes for a kosher and joyous Passover festival for [you] and all the members of [your] household, may they be well, and may we share good tidings.”
[1] leaf official stationery, 21 cm. The letter is typewritten, with the addition of characteristic punctuation marks in the Rebbe’s hand, concluding with the Rebbe’s signature.
