Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Shmaryahu Yehudah Leib Medalia, Av Beit Din of Vitebsk, to his son Rabbi Hillel Medalia, later Av Beit Din of Antwerp.
The gaon Rabbi Shmaryahu Yehudah Leib Medalia (1873-1938) was one of the most prominent rabbis of Russia in his generation. He devoted himself to Russian Jewry, and fought Hash-m’s wars in Russia alongside the Rasha”b of Lubavitch and Rabbi Chaim of Brisk.
He participated in the large conferences in Petersburg in 1910 as a delegate of Vitebsk together with the ‘Ohr Samayach’ and was one of the founding members of Agudat Yisrael in Katowice, in 1912. He was imprisoned in 1938, and torturously murdered within a short time, may his blood be avenged.
Postal postcard from 1934 to his son, Rabbi Hillel, who was then studying at the Chevron yeshivah in Jerusalem. On its reverse, his mother added several lines in Yiddish. Fine condition.
