‘Otzar Hityashvut HaYehudim’ The bank was founded at the First Zionist Congress in Basel by Herzl in the framework of the establishment of ‘Bank Ivri’ whose purpose was to assist with the settlement of Jews in Argentina, and then in the Land of Israel. The sum the bank raised was used to open a banking business in London in which its primary investment was the establishment of the Anglo-Palestine Bank in 1902. Over the years, the bank’s stocks went through various incarnations and change of ownership. In the 2000s, the bank was controlled by the World Zionist Federation.
At the beginning of the 20th century, shares of the company were sold to Diaspora Jews, some of whom passed away or were killed during the Holocaust years. The company is currently a private concern. According to its most recent financial report as presented to the stock exchange in March of 2017, the company deals with two fields of business: financial investments and bonds that are traded at the exchange, and innovation, development, construction and management of solar power generation facilities and projects. The controllers of the company are the Zionist Federation, the UIA and the State of Israel’s public trustee.
