Collection of 13 protective leaves (flyleaves) on which impressive dedications, signatures, owners’ notations and various other notations are inscribed.
The notations are from the years 1671 through the 1800s, including some by famous personalities, such as the inscription: “This book belongs to the great gaon, famous in Torah and fear of Heaven, the honorable Rabbi David Teveli Shier, may his candle burn for ever and ever, Av Beit Din and lecturer in Magentza” – in 1776-1777 the Chata”m Sofer studied at his yeshivah in Mainz, and the latter referred to him in his responsa as “my teacher, my rabbi” – see Ishim B’Teshuvot HeChata”m Sofer 297. On the other side of the leaf is a signature of Rabbi Pilta Epstein Segal, Av Beit Din of Bruchsal, the renowned printer of Karlsruhe, disciple and in-law of Rabbi Yedidyah Tiah Weil, Av Beit Din of Karlsruhe.
