Shmuel HaLevi Levitan [1883-1974] was one of the leading rabbis of Chaba”d Chassidut of all time; he was privileged to frequent “the three shepherds”: The Admo”r the Rasha”b, the Admo”r the Rayya”tz and the Admo”r Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch. He served as head mashpia in the Central Tomchei Temimim yeshivah in 770, and Admo”rs of Chaba”d would turn to him with halachic queries. He served in many additional capacities – as an emissary, a member of the Committee for Writing a Torah Scroll with which to Greet Mashiach, and more. He merited to be the first baby named after the Mahara”sh. Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch describes him in one of his letters with exalted titles:”הרה”ג והרה”ח הוו”ח וו”ח אי”א נו”מ וכו’ וכו’ מוהר”ר שמואל שי’ לויטין …”
