Booklet formatted like a Passover Haggadah in honor of the marriage of a Jewish couple in Berlin, right before Kristallnacht. Berlin, 1938. Very rare.
[2], 6 pages, 21 cm. Booklet printed for the marriage of a Jewish bride and groom, Yaakov Pinczower and Katie Leopold, on May 1, 1938, in Berlin. Hebrew and German. This “Haggadah” marks the couple’s “Exodus from Egypt” – their exodus from engagement – to the “Promised Land” – marriage. The booklet has Hebrew subtitles taken from the traditional Passover Haggadah, integrated with German text describing the couple’s life. The text expresses the difficult situation of German Jewry after five years of Nazi rule, right before Kristallnacht. Published with license at a German press.
The groom was possibly the brother of famed Jewish athlete Felix Pinczower. The JNF issued a unique telegram in honor of his marriage in 1935, also for sale in this auction.
Not in the National Library. Very fine condition.
