A halachic responsum by Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach to Rabbi Yisrael Yefet, dated July 19, 1968, regarding electricity on Shabbat.

Rabbi Shlomo Zalman does not repeat the question in his response, but from the content of the responsum it seems that he was asked about a certain action which causes a magnetic field or a small electric current to be formed, and he responds: “I do not see any prohibition” and adds a comment in brackets.
Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach [1910-1995] one of the greatest halachic authorities and the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Kol Torah for 46 years. Despite belonging to the ultra-Orthodox sector, he was accepted by all religious streams of Orthodox Judaism. He dealt widely with questions of technology and medicine, and was considered to be the halachic expert on the topic. His first work, Meorei Esh was dedicated to technology – electricity on Shabbat.
