The gaon Rabbi Yosef Dov (R’ Yoshe Ber) HaLevi Soloveitchik [1916-1981] was the firstborn son and successor of the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Ze’ev – the Brisker Rav. During the Holocaust years, he ascended with his father to Jerusalem and founded the Brisk yeshivah together with him in Jerusalem, and later he led it. The gaon Rabbi Yosef Dov HaLevi is considered to be one of the rabbinic leaders of the previous generation. He was in close contact with the Chazon Ish and maintained a correspondence with him. At first he was involved in certain missions from his father, the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Ze’ev of Brisk, and after the latter’s passing he would come to discuss and consult regarding halachic and personal matters. Many of his students serve as renowned rashei yeshivahs and rabbis in Israel and abroad.
