Greetings from the rabbi of Padua, Rabbi Mordechai Shmuel Girundi, to Rabbi Avraham de Colognia in Trieste. [1832].

The letter was sent in 1832 and includes blessings for the new year, greetings upon the marriage of his daughter, and regards to “Moshe Zacuto Norzi.” The address is written in Italian on the back.
Rabbi Mordechai Moshe Girundi was rabbi of Padua for 21 years. One of the sages of his time testified: “I have never seen anybody else as proficient in Torah as the rabbi and kabbalist Mordechai Shmuel…” He authored many works, including Toldot Gedolei Yisrael, Mara Dachya, Yad Mordechai, Tochen Ratzuf Ahava, and Dover Shalom.
Rabbi Avraham de Colognia was a member of the Paris “Sanhedrin” in 1809. He authored many works in French and Hebrew. At the end of his life, he was invited to lead the Trieste community and instituted many beneficial changes. He was eulogized in all French and Italian communities.
