“Please explain to me the solution to this riddle. I sent the sefarim and I did not find any response indicating receipt of the sefarim ”
Letter from Rabbi Shalom Dov Gvirson, av beit din of Kletzk and Deretchin, author of Shu”t Heichlei Shen (three parts) and Darkei Noam to the rabbi of Iasi, Romania, Rabbi Shlomo Guttman, about sending his sefarim , and whether he has received them. Kletzk, 1902.
Rabbi Shalom Dov writes to him using superlative titles, such as ” yedid nafshi, hagaon hagadol, geza yeshishim, [your] sacred honor and all who bask in [your] shadow …”
He was apparently acquainted with him despite the geographic distance between Lithuania and Romania. In his letter, Rabbi Shalom Dov is wondering about the books he sent per the recipient’s request. He acquired them through much toil and trouble (it had been many years since they were printed) – Shu”t Heichal Chen, mahadura kamma and mahadura tanina (Warsaw, 1869/1885), and Darkei Noam – derashot (Pietrkov, 1776) and over half a year has passed and he had still not received word as to whether Rabbi Guttman received them.
