Please rescue the many Jews for the sake of His great name!” Declaration of dozens of rabbis in Pressburg and environs sent to Rabbi Akiva Sofer in which they establish him as rosh kollel of Shomrei HaChomot in Jerusalem. The declaration elaborates that after the assembly which took place in Pressburg with the participation of the rabbis, there was a discussion of the regulations of the Shomrei HaChomot kollel, which had been founded by the Ktav Sofer and the Mahara”m A”Sh approximately seventy years previously, and with the outbreak of “new streams” they saw the need to establish all the rabbis as messengers of the state chosen to be the representatives of all the people expressing their complete and absolute trust that the presidency of the kollel is headed and led by Rabbi Akiva Sofer, and they ‘declare openly and explicitly their complete and absolute agreement to support, also in the future, with all their hearts and souls and in all their activities the guidance of the president, shlit”a regarding everything to do with the regulations and improvements to the Shomrei HaChomot kollel.’ Dozens of printed rabbinic signatures are on the letter, according to the various cities, arranged alphabetically, and according to their roles, including the signatures of Rabbi Shaul Rosenberg, Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Brach, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Eidels, Rabbi Shimon Schreiber of Erloi, Rabbi Avrahm Chanoch Friedman of Satmar and additional rabbis.
