Letter handwritten and signed by the wonder-worker, the Admo”r Rabbi Elimelech Shapira of Zhichlin. Kalish. Letters from him are extraordinarily rare.
The letter deals with elections to the Va’ad HaKehillot and the Rebbe urges his followers to vote only for the Chareidi lists. In the middle of the letter and in its margins, the gabbai adds several lines in his hand (with a different pen) to the editors of the HaYud newspaper with respect to publishing the letter in the newspaper.
The Admo”r Rabbi Rephael Elimelech Shapira of Zhichlin was a son of the Admo”r of Kalishin, and son-in-law and successor of the Admo”r of Zhichlin. Rabbi Elimelech was a descendant of Rabbi Naftali of Ropschitz. He resided in Kalish and was accepted in many Chassidic circles. Prominent Admo”rs in Poland venerated him. He was known as a wonder worker who enacted many salvations. Many miracle stories were told about him in Poland (which drew the opposition of Kotzker Chassidim, and they declared the famous saying: “Miracles and wonders – in the land of the sons of Cham”). Material about him is enclosed.
