Letter from the gaon Rabbi Yosef Dov (Yoshe Ber) HaLevi Soloveitchik, firstborn son and successor of the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Ze’ev HaLevi.
In this letter before us, in his careful and traditional Brisk handwriting, Rabbi Yoshe gives a recommendation for a student of the Brisk yeshivah who is publishing his first book, Chanukat HaBayit. Rabbi Yoshe Ber blesses him: “May Hash-m desire [your] success in increasing and glorifying Torah.”
Rabbi Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik [1916-1981] was a prince in the golden Brisk dynasty (firstborn son and right hand man of his father, the gaon Rabbi Chaim HaLevi of Brisk, and great-grandson of the Beit HaLevi, who he was named after, and so forth). After his father’s passing, he established the renowned Brisk yeshivah in Jerusalem and stood at its head for many years.
