Letter from a fellow Kohen, Rabbeinu Yisrael Meir HaKohen of Radin, author of Mishnah Berurah and Chafetz Chaim , that shook the world and were accepted by all Jewish communities. Sent to Rabbi Yitzchak Una, a rabbi of Mannheim. Radin, Nissan, 1930.
At the beginning of the letter, the Chafetz Chaim expresses his appreciation for a significant contribution to his yeshivah in Radin, and apologizes for not replying immediately “due to our tremendous burdens.” When he wrote the letter, the Chafetz Chaim was 92 years old [!!] and still occupied in dealing with public affairs.
At the end of the letter, the Chafetz Chaim writes with much warmth “May the merit of Torah stand by your side, to be blessed with all goodness … and may you merit to see the salvation of the Jewish people and the raising of the banner of Torah, and be privileged to celebrate the sacred holiday in joy and [in a kosher manner]. Your kindred spirit who appreciates you …” and he signs his name in his own hand!
