Yavne publishers planned on publishing a series of books about artists. Each book was to be written by an expert on that particular artist and his works. This book was the first in the series. The preface includes a recommendation from H. N. Bialik for the author of the work, A.L. Pasternak, who was an expert in print reproductions of masterpieces of art.
