Ketubah of the bridegroom Gershom, known as Prof. Greg Yelnik, son of Rabbi Aharon, and the convert Camilla Wertheim. The document is printed with handwritten additions and witnesses’ signatures.
Yelnik (1821-1894) established the Beit Midrash L’Rabbanim in Vienna and served as a preacher in the Beit Midrash HaGadol in Vienna. He opposed the Reform decisively, yet strayed from normative Orthodoxy, and supported several changes, such as playing an organ in the synagogue. He even read the ketubah in Hebrew, although his son’s ketubah was proven to be in Aramaic only, according to tradition.
Leaf sized 35×39 cm. Tear marks in the folds of the leaf, without lack.
