Colored poster, Visit Palestine, from a series by the Tourist Association of Palestine, Franz Krausz, 1936. 82×55 cm. Lithograph. Illustration depicts Jerusalem in the 1930s in vivid colors; the Dome of the Rock, parks and alleys and the homes of Jerusalem in the background. This work earned artist Franz Krausz much renown. The poster was printed by the Tourist Association of Palestine which hired Krausz to promote Zionist tourism in Palestine. Paradoxically, this poster is used today for pro-Palestinian propaganda. Krausz (1905-1998) was raised in Austria. He learned art and design and worked in Berlin. When the Nazis rose to power, he and his wife immigrated to Palestine in 1934 and he started working for Dubek and Elite. Within a wood frame with matting and glass. 100×72 cm., including the frame. Light creases, fine-very fine condition.
