Interesting letter entirely handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman, av beit din and rosh yeshivah of Ponovezh, from within England. Sent to a Manchester rabbi. Liverpool, 1926.
The letter was sent by the gaon Rabbi Yosef Shlomo while he was in the port city of Liverpool, stating that he plans on coming to Manchester, where the addressee resides, in a short time, as part of his activities “on behalf of the sacred Ponovezh yeshivah, as I took the responsibility upon myself to fulfil my tremendous duty to rescue very existence it at this difficult time.”
Rabbi Kahaneman’s great skill in getting different people to connect with the goal for which he is traveling is evident in this letter, along with giving them a feeling of personal commitment to the matter: “I am very happy that it will be possible for both of us to fulfill this desire of both of ours together (emphasis in the original), to see each other and join with a group together pleasantly …”
