Printed poster – ‘Kol-Koreh – Hoda’ah Gluyah’ – controversy on the kashrut of the guarded flour designated for Passover matzahs carried out by millstones that operate via a new method, known as ‘cylindrical.’ Oran, Cheshvan 1811.
This controversy roiled North African Jewry and its reverberations even reached the Land of Israel. The foremost among those who forbade it was Rabbi Rachma”n – Rabbi Chaim Moshe ben Naim, av beit din of Gibralter, who published the book Kol Techinah V’Kol Tachanah (Jerusalem, 1913). Opposing this, the book Kol Tza’akat HaRo’im was published (Tunis, 1915) that presented the opinions of those who allowed this method.
This poster lists prominent rabbis who side with the prohibition of using these millstones. They include the batei din of Jerusalem, Hebron and Safed; Rabbi Raphael Ankawa, Rabbi David Abuchatzeira, Rabbi Yekutiel Burdugo and many others.
A large ink stamp from Rabbi Chaim Yosef Mamman, grandson of ‘HaMalach Raphael’ appears at the bottom of the poster, along with the Oran community’s beit din ‘s official ink stamp.
