Background: First edition of responsa from the Maharshach. On the first page, the author writes that he wished to print just some of his novellae before he passed away. This book was printed following two parts printed a few years earlier. Preceding the first response is the date “26 Elul 5354,” and within the book’s body the year 5355 (1594) is mentioned.
The author, Rabbi Shlomo HaCohen of Salonika [1520-1602], was among the greatest adjudicators of his generation, and friend of the Maharal and Maharashdam, who together were considered the greatest halachic authorities of their time.
Condition: Moderate-fine. The first ten pages were professionally restored, including the completion of some text by skilled photography. Some worming holes on the white margins. Aging stains. Simple binding.
