Sefer HaTerumot – early halachic work, which, according to many opinions, is relied upon by most of Choshen Mishpat, followed by Beit Yosef and other adjudicators, by Rabbi Shmuel HaSardi, disciple/colleague of the Ramba”n. Second edition. The fundamental book before us deals with financial law. It constitutes something of an encyclopedia for financial law and Choshen Mishpat, and is arranged according to issues and subjects, and not according to the order of Talmudic tractates. The book is divided into seventy sections, and each section is divided into chapters. The book’s main topic is halachahs of borrower/lender and related issues, which was the main occupation of Jewish adjudicators. The great influence of the book also came as a result of its frequent mention in the Choshen Mishpat section of Arba Turim, authored by Rabbi Ya’akov ben HaRo”sh, and constitutes the foundation of halachic adjudication for the Jewish people. Title page with interesting figures of angels; the name of Rabbi “Mordechai Cohen” appears inside the border, on top of a Kohen’s hands raised in blessing. He was the paternal grandfather of the printer, Moshe Katz. Owner’s signature on the title page: “Yissachar Ber,” possibly referring to the author of Arba Charashim (Frankfurt, 1681). Additional owners’ signatures. Leaf 24 contains a scholarly comment in ancient script and a number of glosses in a different handwriting. Rabbi Shmuel HaSardi [1190-1256] was a Spanish sage in the first half of the 13th century. He was apparently from the island of Sardinia, with that being the source of his name (some sources confuse this name and refer to him as “Shmuel HaSepharadi”). Rabbi Shmuel was a disciple/colleague of the Ramba”n. When he wrote the book before us, he consulted with the Ramba”n both in writing and orally regarding several issues with which he had difficulty. The collection of responsa to Rabbi Shmuel HaSardi is among the major responsa of the Ramba”n available to us. 105 leaves. 30 cm. Dark leaves, as was accepted in Prague presses.
