Rabbi Daniel ben Moshe Tirani was born in Ancona. As a baby, he was orphaned from his mother and was raised by his maternal grandfather, Rabbi Daniel Nachmu, who taught him Torah. He also learned secular subjects. In 1761, he finished writing his Shem Olam, novellae on the Torah. That same year, he was honored with an invitation to speak in the Ancona synagogue on Shabbat Shuvah and Shabbat HaGadol. In 1781, he moved to Pesaro to serve as dayan. In 1791, he left Pesaro and was appointed rav in Florence. He wrote many works, including Matnat Yad, Shem Olam, and Ikrei HaDa”t.
