“For the Adults of the Jews of the Lodz Ghetto.” I am hereby sending you a voucher for the receipt of warm bread, especially for the young children between the ages of two and seven. I am also sending each of you a special voucher for five large, sweet candies, from my company. The candies are good and sweet. Give them to your sweet children. May they eat them in good health. May you be inscribed and sealed for good.”
So writes Mordechai Chaim Ramkowsky, head of the Lodz ghetto on the eve of Rosh HaShanah 1941, to the parents in the Lodz ghetto. The voucher is attached to the greeting card, designed to be detached. Before us is the card with the voucher which was not detached. Rare!
[1] leaf, 18×9 cm. Yiddish.

This attests to the human side of the ruler of the ghetto.
