‘I will sing a new song in joy and rejoicing, my lips will open in joy,’ a song of praise in honor of Sir Moshe Montefiore, by ‘Eliyahu Maman son of Rabbi Yosef Maman, a resident of Meknes’ in preparation for Montefiore’s visit to Morocco. Gibralter, 1864.

Unique Features: Words of blessing and praise of Sir Montefiore before the song, which is then followed by a ‘Mi Sheberach’ prayer for Sir Montefiore and his wife Yehudit.
Background: In 1864, the Jews of Morocco were in great danger due to a libel that the Jews in the city of Safi poisoned a Spanish tax collector. Four Jews were arrested and the Spanish deputy consul demanded they be executed. Two were indeed killed and Montefiore, after extensive efforts, succeeded in securing the release of the remaining two.
