Shofar for blowing during the Yamim Nora’im in 18th century Ashkenaz.
Contrary to current custom, this shofar was prepared by heating it to change the original shape, giving it an angle of about 90 degrees near the end, so that the sound of the shofar is directed upward.
A small hole is carved into the body of the shofar, for threading a string to hang the shofar in its place.
The words”Kol Shofar” are engraved by hand on the body of the shofar in script characteristic of the period.
Shofars from this period and location are rare, difficult to find.
Maximum length: 38 cm. Maximum width: 11 cm. The kashrut status of the shofar has not been examined.
