‘Shulchan Kodesh’ on Tractate Makkot. Rare and interesting work in manuscript. Autograph. C. 1800 or slightly earlier. Unprinted.
The basis of the work is a compilation of the Ramba”m’s words from all over the Ya”d HaChazakah and some from the Shulchan Aruch, per the order of Tractate Makkot with sources and elucidations. It is essentially somewhat of a Chafetz-Chaim-like compilation of the halachahs of topics in kodshim, but this author preceded the Chafetz Chaim with the idea by at least 150 years.
The center of the leaves bear compilations from the Ramba”m in his words per the order of the tractate (with indication of the part of the tractate to which it relates). The margins on one side contain references to the sources (something of an Ein Mishpat ) and the margins on the other side contain references to the words of the Ramba”m, novellae and deliberations, concluding with novellae on the order of Tractate Makkot.
The writer’s identity is unknown to us; he refers to his work on Tractate Yevamot (28b) and his novellae on adjudicative literature (28b; 30a). The name of the work is according to a note from the previous owner of the manuscript on an attached leaf that also indicates that he had another part of this work that explicitly indicated the name of the composition.
[28] leaves. 21×17 cm. Clear, legible script. Lacking a small amount at the beginning – starts from Tractate Makkot page 5a. The first 3 leaves have a tear at the top of the leaf with a slight lack at the beginning. Aging stains. New leather binding.
