Prayers for the entire year with commentary in Yiddish, with Tehillim and techinot. Amsterdam, [1705]. Magnificent parchment binding with silver.
[3], 315; [1], 92 leaves, 19 cm. Siddur for women according to the Polish customs. Includes prayers for the entire year, with selichot, yotzrot, and the Passover haggadah. Three illustrations on the title page: challah, hadlakat ha-ner, and niddah. Separate title page for Tehillim and the Seder Techinot, which includes techinot in Yiddish.
The prayerbook has a magnificent parchment binding. It has a thin, smooth silver border that defines the three sides of the binding, the front and back. The border is supported with two small clips in the back section on both sides of the binding. The front top and bottom corners have matching silver decorations, on both sides of the binding. A silver clasp with flowers and leaves, comprised of three sections, sits at the center of the binding.
A small decorated silver plate with Hebrew engraving: ברוך בר שמעון [1785] זאב יצו שנת עת לגאולהwith a picture of a scale is attached to the center of the front binding with small silver nails. A matching plaque is attached to the back binding with the text היצלה בת כמר גרשון זל with a picture of a lizard. The date on the plaque indicates that it was added about 80 years after the siddur was printed and was gifted to the couple Baruch and Hitzlah at their wedding.
The spine has been professionally restored. (The back binding is missing the upper border.) Small tears in the title page margins, far from the text. Gilt edges. Minimal aging stains. Fine condition.
