Composition against Herzl and Zionism, by Yehoshua Zelig Dorman, Vilna, Piroshnikoff, 1902.
A sharp-tongued composition in Yiddish, written in Dr. Herzl’s lifetime. On the title page: Sinat Chinam and on the top of the pages: Zadon U’Meshuga.
At the end of the booklet, which is entirely in non-vowelized Yiddish, 4 pages in Hebrew were written, quotes on Zionism, including:
“There were days when we believed that only the dirty, smelly Jews, stinking due to the Cholent they greedily eat every Sabbath, are the only existence of our people … and only due to their merit and for them the world had been created…”
In the National Library, two variants were listed, one in vowelized Yiddish with 32 pp. in Yiddish only, and a variant like the one before us, in non-vowelized Yiddish and ending on p. 36 and from there to the end, the leaves are in Hebrew.
An extremely rare composition, which to the best of our knowledge has never been auctioned.
40 pp. 15.5 cm. In a new fabric binding.
Printed on acid paper, fine-very fine condition.
