HaKatuv LaChaim – Tehillim with commentary by Rabbi Chaim Palagi of Izmir. Rare, uncommon book. The National Library’s collection does not include a complete copy. The verses of Tehillim are printed in large, vowelized letters with cantillation. Under them is the commentary “according to the simple meaning of the words, midrash and some kabbalah.” There is an important lengthy introduction by the author, Rabbi Chaim Palagi, about the virtues of reciting Tehillim, in which he writes that our ancestors told us about reciting Tehillim in Izmir. On the title page: “No. 15 of the Author’s Books.” There are a number of leaves preceding the title page, some of which are handwritten, and some with hymns and prayers for burials and cemeteries. 10, 212 leaves. 16 cm. Y. Y. Chasidah: Rabbi Chaim Palagi and his Books, no. 21; fine condition. Owner’s notations. Again stains. Few tears without damage.
