Letters on various topics between Rabbi Bengis and Rabbi Mordechai Buxbaum – Torah ruling, pictures sent by Rabbi Bengis for various needs, Rosh HaShana greetings and more. One of the letters has a partial signature of Rabbi Bengis’s [its end was cut off in a torn part of the leaf].
Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis [1864-1953]: born in Lithuania and learned at first in Yeshivat Volozhin, where he was known as a tremendous prodigy. His rabbi, the Netziv, called him “a living shas.” He was rabbi in Bodki, Smolensk and Kalvarija. Known for his great genius, and authored the series LiFlugat Reuven . Immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1938 to serve as Av Beit Din of the Edah HaChareidit, and became its head from 1949 until his passing in 1953.
