A leaf of Torah novaelle, perhaps part of a halachic responsum, in the handwriting of the tremendous Gaon and righteous man Rabbi Mordechai Benet, Av Beit Din of Nikolsburg.
Specifications: [2] leaves. 19×23 cm. The majority of one leaf is missing, the second has tears with part missing. The handwriting has been identified as his handwriting.
Background: Rabbi Mordechai Benet (1750-1829) one of the greatest later sages, righteous man, halachic ruler and kabbalist, Av Beit Din and famous Rabbi and Rosh Yeshiva of Nikolsburg and the entire region of Moravia from the year 1790. A student of the Noda B’Yehuda and Rabbi Shmelke of Nikolsburg.
The Chatam Sofer (by whom he was ordained as a Rabbi in 1794, when he was appointed as Rabbi of Strazince which was under his authority in Moravia), eulogized him, “…the day a righteous man is eulogized is bad and bitter, the leader of the generation, the Rabbi of the entire Jewish people who led our county for forty years, and sustained the entire Jewish nation with Torah and fear of Heaven, an expert in the entire Talmud and the only son of the Divine Presence.”
