Ownership signature on the title page: Yitzchak son of my father master and teacher Moshe Aryeh Freund, grandson of the Admor Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Freund of Nassod. Rabbi Moshe Aryeh and his son Yitzchak were murdered in the Holocaust. Handwritten comment on page 2b.
Background: The author Rabbi Shlomo of Skala was one of the greatest respondents, so much so that the Tchebiner Gaon referred to him as “The Chatam Sofer of Galicia.” A disciple of Rabbi Avraham Dov of Buczacz; he was associated with the chassidut. He first wife was the daughter of Rabbi Moshe Menachem Mendel who was a disciple of the Ohev Yisrael of Apta. In the responsa Beit Shlomo, there are responses which he wrote to the Admor Rabbi Yisrael of Chortkov when the latter was young.
