Description: 9×14 cm.
Background: Cardboard with embroidered fabric postcard, comprised of two paper layers. The front includes a paper frame, which surrounds the embroidered cloth. Printed on the back are the manufacturer’s details: “רקמת ‘עמק הארזים’, העברי את צל.” The embroidery workshop in Beit Tulma, Emek HaArazim, was established in the early 1920s and operated until the colony’s dissolution following the 1929 riots. During this time, the renowned artist Shlomo Yedidya-Seelenfreund lived and worked in the settlement, and it is possible that the embroidery is either his handiwork, or was inspired by his work.
Condition: Very fine.

Highlights: Blowing the shofar [published by Altneuland – Warsaw], the son’s blessing [with inscriptions in German and Hebrew ‘תחל שנה וברכותיה’ (‘May the year with its blessings begin’)], postcards with high holiday synagogue scenes, postcards with reproductions of paintings by Moritz Daniel Oppenheim, ‘Shanah Tovah’s depicting the kapparot custom, taking the four species, a postcard which was distributed for Jewish immigrants who arrived in America at the beginning of the 20th century which depicts the tashlich custom, and more.

Folding Shanah Tovah card that opens to display a group picture of participants in the First Zionist Congress in Basel – on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of Elul 1897. Unique format published in the United States, with dozens of additional photos of personalities and views from that era. New York, early 20th century.
All the folds of the Shanah Tovah card open to display a group photo of 162 faces of the participants in the First Zionist Congress. Along with the Shanah Tovah blessings in Hebrew, English and Russian, there are dozens of photos on the back, the stalwarts of Jewish culture at the start of the 20th century: early sites in Palestine [originating from postcards of the time]; school in Jaffa; Western Wall; Biblical scenes; photos of prominent rabbis: Vilna Gaon, Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spector of Kovno, the Maharsh”a, Rabbi Shmuel Mohilever and other rabbis; along with the fathers of the “enlightenment” and political Zionism: Herzl, Max Nordau, Baron de Hirsch and others. Includes the famed picture of the Yom Kippur service in the camp in Metz, and two photos unrelated to Jewish culture, taken from the American culture: Columbus and George Washington, and many more.
Some of the photos are within folds that cover other photos [refer to the pictures in the catalog]. The paper is folded into a booklet -an imitation of a folded Shanah Tovah card. Rare.

On the facade, a large picture of the tablets of the covenant with a star of David in the middle of them and the year 5705 [1945]. Inscription on the right: ‘לשנה טובה תכתבו’ and ‘A Happy New Year ‘ on the left and ‘Greeting from the Eighth Army C. M. F.’ at the bottom. Rare.
Sent in the mail. Details of the sender and the addressee were filled in by hand. On the reverse, printed instructions regarding how to send the aerogramme, the sender and the recipient.

Inscription on the front: ‘לשנה טובה תכתבו, שנת שחרור וגאולה, אטליה תש”ו’ [‘May you be Inscribed for a Good Year, a Year of Liberation and Redemption, Italy 1945’] with a picture of a bird holding a olive leaf in its mouth. 7×11 cm. The card was used – writing on the reverse. Filing holes.
* ‘Shana Tova’ card from the First Camouflage Company, Royal Engineers, Central Mediterranean Forces – Italy, Rosh HaShana eve, 1944. Impressive illustration of a star of David with an imaginary animal figure composed of a wolf combined with a sheep, (according to the verse relating to world peace in acharit hayamim [messianic times] ‘וגר זאב עם כבש’ [‘The wolf will live with the sheep’]) in its center. 6×10 cm. The envelope in which the card was sent is included.
Very fine condition.
* Etzel ‘Shana Tova’ card. Etzel’s logo on the left, and its slogan ‘רק כך’ [‘Only this Way’], and the inscription, ‘השתא במדינת ישראל לשנה הבאה בארץ ישראל’ [Now in the State of Israel, next year in the Land of Israel] with the intent being the Land of Israel including both sides of the Jordan, as appears in the Irgun’s logo. 1940s. 5×10 cm.

* ‘Yael’ Unit 178 – Jewish General Transport Unit. On the front, the inscription, ‘מדרכים בנכר – שאו ברכה לשנה החדשה! ערב ראש השנה תש”ג [1943] במדבר.’ [‘From Foreign Roads – Carry Blessing for the New Year! Rosh HaShana Eve, תש”ג in the desert’]. Star of David on the upper right with ‘יעל’ in the middle. The original envelope in which this card was sent to Mrs. Aviva Neuman is included. 6×10 cm.
Both cards were used. Both are in very fine condition.

“Shana Tova” in a special format 29 ARMY FLD SVY DEPORT R.E. C.M.F. Italy, Rosh HaShana eve, [1945]. “My heartfelt blessings for the new year. May the upcoming year, 1945, be a year of victory and peace in the world and in the settlement “V’shavu banim ligvulam” is inscribed in its center. With the addresses of the addressee and the sender filled in by hand.

The Jewish Brigade’s initials: U.D.F. M.E.F. and C.M.F.. On the reverse, a soldier’s h a ndwritten inscription with his personal number and details.

[‘The remnant of Yaakov will be among many nations, like dew from Hash-m … which is not hoped for by man and not awaited by human.’

Interesting ‘Shana Tova’ card with gilt inscription: A Happy New Year to Sister. Germany, c. 1900.
The card opens into a notepad with eight lines of text in the middle, long Shana Tova blessings to “my sister” in English and Yiddish on facing pages: Sister dear my heart sends greeting … “Made in Germany” is printed in the lower right corner.
Velvet fabric bird image pasted to the front of the card, with a colorful ribbon alongside. Rare ‘Shana Tova.’
