Sefer She’erit Yisrael – Chassidut by the renowned wonder-worker, the Admo”r Rabbi Yisrael Dov Ber of Vlednik, whose grave in Ukraine still draws many who experience salvation there. Rare first edition. Lemberg, 1864.
Already in his generation, the tzaddik of Vlednik was known as a wonder- and salvation-worker. Admo”rim of his generation, such as the Tzemach Tzedek of Chaba”d, would send their followers to him for salvation. He was known primarily for his wonders in the field of mental health. Patients from all over Ukraine would come to Vlednik and return home healthy and whole. The sacred rebbe also became famous in the field of agunot . He would reveal to the forlorn women through his spiritual inspiration where their husbands were hiding.
He promised in his will that whoever visits his grave in Vlednik, will have his prayers answered, and “even if they cannot reach the grave [due to crowding], they can hold the doorknob and merit salvation” ( Sippurei Nifla’ot MeHaRav HaKadosh She’erit Yisrael , New York, 1996, p. 145). On his yahrtzeit, 21 Tevet, roads in Ukraine would be filled with people despite the harsh Ukrainian winter. Those who could not come would send messengers to light oil on his grave – as appears in Sippurei Nifla”ot (Zhitomir, 1901, p. 3): “To this day, people travel from afar to his grave, anyone with strong faith will soon see all his requests fulfilled. Many are messengers to light olive oil on his grave …” In our times, too, his grave site in Vlednik is a pilgrimage site for people seeking salvation and Jews from all over the world flock to his grave and experience salvation, as he promised.
