13 knives made in Warsaw by manufactuer Shmuel Gerlach. Five are made of hallmarked silver. With the maker’s mark, “Gerlach Warszawie,” and a crown flanked by two Stars of David (the crown was the company’s emblem from the times of Nikolai at the beginning of the 19th century).
The Gerlach company was founded in Poland in 1760 and specialized in kitchen knives and flatware. Their pieces were particularly noted for their classical elegance. Gerlach pieces with Jewish motifs (such as these Stars of David) are rare.
The silver knives together weigh 670 grams. Fine condition.
