Important and unknown letter of guidance for a bride about to get married (the Rebbe’s niece), entirely handwritten and signed by the Admo”r of Piacenza, Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Shapira, author of Chovat HaTalmidim and Hachsharat HaAvreichim . Piacenza, 1920s.
This personal and important letter of guidance is addressed to the Rebbe’s brother R’ Menachem Mendel. The Rebbe addresses his letter to “My dear beloved brother, precious to my heart and soul, wise scion of sanctified Torah greats … Rabbi Menachem Mendel shlit”a” (we will parenthetically mention here that in Chassidic historiography, there is no known brother of the author of Chovat HaTalmidim by the name of Menachem Mendel, and one cannot say that the title “my brother” in this letter is describing kindred spirits, because later on the letter refers to “your wife – my sister-in-law”). It is possible that Rabbi Menachem Mendel was his brother from his mother, daughter of Rebbe of Chentchin.)
