” Yedia Ne’emanah L’Adat Mei Manah … ” Rare and important bibliographic poster [Amsterdam, c. 1771]. Important bibliographic leaflet describing an edition of the Talmud that was never printed!
This rare poster is well-known through the gaon Rabbi Raphael Nattan Nota Rabinowitz, author of Dikdukei Sofrim , who, in his work Ma’amar al Hadpassat HaTalmud , writes about this poster and describes how it came into his possession. Due to its rarity, he quotes an excerpt from it.
Background: The printer Moshe Mei began to print the Talmud in Metz in 1768, in a small format. Proops, the Amsterdam printer, claimed that this constituted encroachment. In this poster, the printer in Metz apologizes, and announces a compromise with the printer in Amsterdam, he then goes on to detail the virtues of his Talmud.
