Letter from Rabbi Chanoch Zvi Levine, rabbi of Bendin, to Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld of Jerusalem. [C. 1925].
13.5×17 cm. Letterhead with his address in Warsaw. After the First World War, the Admor of Gur and his entire family moved to Warsaw. All in his hand and with his signature.
The Rabbi of Bendin blesses Rabbi Sonnenfeld that he will use his leadership position to benefit all those who fear and love G-d. This letter was possibly sent after the Rabbi of Bendin visited Jerusalem in 1924 with his brother-in-law, the “Imrei Emet” of Gur, in order to make peace between the supporters of Rabbi Sonnenfeld and Rabbi Kook.
Rabbi Chanoch Zvi HaKohen Levine (1871-1935) was known as the Rabbi of Bendin. He was a grandson of Rabbi Chanoch Henoch of Alexander, a disciple of the Rebbe of Kotzk and the leader of Gur chassidut after the death of the “Chiddushei HaRim.” He was the son-in-law of the “Sefat Emet,” who often extolled him. He was rabbi of Bendin, a prominent Jewish city in Poland, a foremost Polish rabbi, and a leader of the Agudat Yisrael and the Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah. A few of his writings were published in the Yichaen Pe’er, but unfortunately, most of his manuscripts were lost in the Holocaust.
