Tzion L’Nefesh Chayah. Halachic novellae on Tractate Pesachim, by Rabbi Yechezkel Landau. Prague, [1783-1784]. First edition. Scholarly glosses from the era.
[2], 123, [1] leaves, about 34 cm. Antiquated owner signature on the title page, and signature on the concluding blank flyleaf.
Throughout the work are more than ten glosses in two hands. The glosses were definitely written by a proficient Torah scholar, apparently from the author’s era. Some of the glosses refer to other works by the author. The gloss on leaf 17 opens: “We need to further clarify…” Leaf 18 has a lengthy gloss signed מו”א [?], apparently the initials of Rabbi Moshe Wolf Ayush of Prague. The second writer, also a proficient Torah scholar, apparently knew the Noda B’Yehudah.
Rabbi Moshe Wolf Ayush was a rabbi of Prague shortly after the Noda B’Yehudah, who was his relative. He was the mechutan of Rabbi Elazar Fleckles, author of Teshuvah MiAhavah, who mentions him in his work.
New, half-leather binding. Title page and a number of following leaves have been professionally restored, with light blemish to text. Aging stains. Fine condition.
