The letter is dated 28 Iyar 1957, and addressees the Rebbe’s only cousin, Zelda Schneersohn-Mishkovsky (known as “The Poetess Zelda”). She was a famous poetess whose poems are taught in schools and universities; she received many literary prizes for her poetry.
The rebbe sends his blessing in his letter “May it be His will that just as we hear the good news of your mother’s improved health, may we hear good news of your improved health … with blessings for the holiday, and as my father-in-law said … to receive the Torah with joy and internalization.” The rebbe continues and teaches us that “Joy is active training and good preparation for instilling our Torah – literally, instruction for life, even in this world, to the inner human.” That is to say, that joy has the active power to heal, and to increase lifespan.
