“… I shall greatly appreciate if you could be helpful to him. With warm personal regards and best
wishes …”
Rare letter in the English language, to the chairman of the Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists. From the Lubavitcher Rebbe, signed in his hand (also in English). Brooklyn, New York, 26 Nissan 1952.
The letter is addressed, as mentioned, to Professor Elmer L. Offenbacher, who served as president of the Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists – AOJS. The letter was sent with respect to a dismal affair, in which a Jewish scientist a McGill University suffered from antisemitism, and the Rebbe attempted to assist him, including with Dr. Offenbacher’s assistance, writing:
Dear Prof. Offenbacher:
I have your letter of Nissan 4th, which I could not acknowledge earlier owing to the intervening Yom-tov of Pesach.
I thank you very much for taking a personal interest in Dr. Ullman’s position. I have taken the liberty of forwarding him your address, so that he could communicate with you direct and acquaint you more fully with the situation.
I shall greatly appreciate if you could be helpful to him.
With warm personal regards and best
wishes,
Cordially,
[1] leaf official stationery, 14×21.5 cm. The letter is typewritten, and concludes with the Rebbe’s signature.
