Ma’ayan HaChochmah – composition on the 613 commandments by Rabbi Noach Chaim Tzvi Berlin. The book before us belonged to Rabbi Aharon of Chernobyl, and he bequeathed it to his son and successor Rabbi Meshulam Zusha.
The notation “Zusha B’HaRav” appears on the title page. This attests to the book being bequeathedֲ by the Admo”r to his son, Meshulam Zusha Twerski, from his father’s, the rabbi of Chernobyl’s inheritance. It is known that after his passing, his books were divided amongst his sons by lottery, and the names of the sons who were chosen for each book were written in the books: “Zusha B’HaRav,” “Menachem Nachum B’HaRav,” etc.
The Admo”r Rabbi Aharon Twerski of Chernobyl [1787-1872] was the elder Admo”r of his generation, the firstborn son and successor of the maggid of Chernobyl, and disciple of his grandfather, Rabbi Nachum of Chernobyl. His mother was a daughter of Rabbi Aharon of Karlin. After his passing, his son Rabbi Meshulam Zusha succeeded him in Chernobyl.
The Admo”r Rabbi Yeshayah Meshulam Zusha Twerskiֲ [d. 1881] was the father-in-law of the Admo”r Rabbi Yissachar Dov of Belz and grandfather of Rabbi Aharon of Belz. The Admo”r Rabbi David Moshe of Chortkov is also one of his sons-in-law.
