Among his teachers, the writer mentions the geonim: Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch, Av Beit Din of Glugau, author of Tiferet Tzvi (18b; 25a and onward); Rabbi Zalman, dayan of Seltz (2a); Rabbi Chaim Meir, rabbi of the Glugau study hall (31a; 31b; 32a); Rabbi Ya’akov Katz [disciple of the gaon Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschutz] “when I studied Tractate Chulin with him in Lissa (44a)”; and he also cites novellae in the name of the gaon Rabbi Wolf Eiger, Av Beit Din of Leipnik uncle and teacher of Rabbi Akiva Eiger (17a). All are among the geonim of Ashkenaz, Poznaֵ„ district.
