Moritz Daniel Oppenheim (1801-1882) was the first Jewish artist to earn a reputation for depicting Jewish life in Germany. In his youth, at the beginning of his career, he stayed at the Rothschild home in Frankfurt and painted their portraits. In 1865 he started to paint pictures of Jewish family life.
